Hi, I'm Nikola Lalov, I'm the founder of Blazing Trail, and this is why I created the Young Leaders Academy.
I grew up between very different worlds. Because my father was a diplomat, part of my childhood was spent in Congo Brazzaville and Kinshasa, around embassies, ministers, diplomats and highly successful people. But I was also exposed to local markets, the streets, and people who had very little materially, yet showed incredible kindness, dignity, resilience and integrity. That contrast shaped the way I understand leadership to this day.
Years later, after studying law in Paris and building a career in renowned organisations such as the ACPR, MetLife, Allianz and Oney Insurance in Malta, culminating in my roles of Chief Legal Officer and Head of HR. With time I became increasingly convinced that too many people are promoted into leadership positions without ever truly learning how to lead, communicate, inspire, or bring out the best in others. Leadership seems too often reduced to titles, numbers and presentations, while the human side of organisations takes second place.
Blazing Trail was created from that conviction. The intent is not simply to teach concepts, but to help young people discover their voice, build confidence, develop character, true leadership skills, and realise they are capable of far more than they think. By breaking down leadership into easily understandable building blocs and practising those through carefuly designed challenges, reflection and real-world interactions, the academy is built to make growth meaningful, practical and genuinely enjoyable - thus creating the desire to continue that virtuous cycle of learning, growth and self-improvement.
Growth, challenge, achievement and meaningful connections can create an incredible sense of pride and fulfilment in life.
